Hello Weekend: HoBags & Resumes

foggydress_hobag_material Hi folks! Check out these awesome shirts I got a while back, from a thrift store! They are perfect HoBag making material, and that’s what I’ll be up to this weekend. Although, I am tempted to re-fashion them into something… but too late, they’re already cut up and en-route to the sewing machine.

I am also re-vamping my resume because it’s been a while since I changed up the formatting. I was looking for a little inspiration, when I came across these funky resumes online:

dd2dee49 ^^ it looks like a Twitter account! ^^ef58e9f1 ^^ this had to have taken a very. long. time. to make. ^^
a5235393 ^^ Would YOU turn your Facebook account into a CV Resume?? ^^

Have you seen these before? They definitely inspired me, albeit they’re a little over the top, but what do you think? Is this the kind of resume that can only be used in the Arts/Media world? Would you go this kind of direction with yours?

Hope you have a fabulous weekend, wherever you and whatever you’re up to. Check back next week for a few giveaways!

hugs all around, hanalei.

One-Year Anniversary at Foggy Dress + Some of my Favorite Posts

Guys, I made it!

365    days of managing this blog.

138    published posts (including this one).

142    different countries that Foggy Dress readers are from.

5    hours on average is spent on each of these posts. Usually — between making something, photographing, choosing photos, editing, making the layout, and writing the post — it can take up to 8-10 hrs on some posts!

3    awesome bloggers who helped me so much, along the way (Liz – SYTH, Brooke – Giddy in the City, Liz – Cotton&Curls)

1    super, duper amazing reader, whom I wouldn’t have had the motivation to keep up the blog posts without… and that super amazing reader is YOU! Thank you for being kind and taking an interest in what I have to say/do/wear. THANK YOU to those of you who take the time to comment! It means so much. I know I say/do/wear a lot of weird things, and sometimes I look back at posts and think “I look so silly!” but you all are so nice and encouraging. So THANK YOU!

Starting & keeping this lifestyle blog was a January 2013 goal of mine, and I’ve achieved it! I worked really hard, spent hours and hours (ask any blogger–it’s a full time job) and poured my heart into this thing. I love how much of the past year I have recorded! Even though it’s not perfect, and I don’t have a gajillion followers, it’s enough. Thanks for coming along for the ride! This next year at Foggy Dress will surely be bright.

Here are some favorite &/or most popular posts of 2013:

foggydress_bestof2013  From EAT, my favorite post in 2013 was white-chocolate dipped coconut macaroons with a hint of lemon. Mostly because I love the photographs I took! They look diviiiiiine.

foggydress_bestof2013 From DRESS, my favorite post was hello yellow because 1.) look at that garage door! All the garages in SF were so pretty and colorful and classy and I miss them. And 2.) I thought the writing was pretty funny. Be sure to read the last paragraph.

foggydress_bestof2013 From RE-FASHIONED, my fave and also (one of) the most popular posts I’ve done was a widen your pants tutorial, making these one-size-too-small jeans fit perfectly!

foggydress_bestof2013 From TRAVEL, my favorite posts were of course my trip to Taiwan and Hong Kong! Because, I mean, you just can’t find a Hello Kitty Restaurant in America:

foggydress_bestof2013 (see all the posts from Taiwan here, here and here. Hong Kong, here.)

foggydress_bestof2013 From DIY, the hands down, most searched for and most popular post on this blog is How to Fix the Worn-Down, Between the Thigh Area in Your Jeans. Who would’ve thought!? I’ve mended several pants like that over the years, and one day I read someone’s blog where a reader commented about that pesky problem and asked how to fix it. The next day I had the tutorial up and it has been the most popular post ever since.

Stay tuned for a fun giveaway coming soon, sponsored by yours truly, to thank you readers for the fun year we’ve had at Foggy Dress.

Catching Autumn, a poem

foggydress_fall

The tree outside my window once had many bright green leaves,

Then yellow, orange, red they fall til’ bare, it’s branches grieve.

Though wind and frost and season’s change will take it’s colored ends,

The sturdy tree stands still and tall, just waiting for the mends

That come with Spring, which follows cold–that wintry, darkened season;

When leaves and color come again, and bring back all the reason

For this lonely tree, when all is gone, and winter takes it’s light,

To hope for what it knows will come, but is not within sight.

Hold on to hope, it’s all we have to get us through the cold,

For Autumn leaves will soon bring Spring if hope is what we hold.

I wrote this poem in college when I was living in northern Utah, a place which truly celebrates all four seasons. If I could live my whole life in those fleeting weeks when summer ends and winter has not yet struck, I would be elated.

I remember looking out my bedroom window at a beautiful, grand tree who’d scattered the grassy hill with it’s yellow, orange, then red leaves. I was terribly sad that such a golden season, so short lived, was already ending. Even more sad was I of the endless winter that inevitably brought chill and snow, short days and dark nights. Hope of Spring always got me through those wintry days. Now I live in a place that only has two seasons: hot summer and cold summer; how I miss that beautiful, grand tree who caught the colors of Autumn and left them by my window.

Hello weekend

image

You guys, I just love fitness classes. It gets me out the door at different times of the day and makes me work my but off! The only class I’m still iffy about is my yoga class. Granted, I’ve only gone once since getting my gym membership a few weeks ago…but this teacher was sort of yelling at us. In a gentle-pushy-voice-sort-of-way. Like, “Reach, reach, reach, reeeaacchhh! You’re not reaching! You gotta reach!” I was thinking in my head, “What do you think we’re all doing!?” I just didn’t feel relaxed, and at the end of class I was ready to go. I think I’ll try a different teacher next week.

Have a great weekend! We’ll be spending ours with family and my cute baby nephew.

PS–My friend recommended a great app that you’re probably all using already…tracks your periods and ovulation, and other stuff. Just in case you wanted to track that sort of thing… (also find it on itunes)

I can’t make you love me

I’m the kind of person who will hear a song and, before it’s finished, be in tears. I believe that music and song is the language of the soul. So when I was watching SYTYCD a few weeks ago, the combination of the beautiful movement of dance with a heart-wrenchingly honest song just about did me in me in.

The song “I Can’t Make You Love Me”, originally by Bonnie Raitt, was performed by Adelle who was also deeply moved by this song. Before singing, she said,

“This is one of my favorite songs ever…I just think it’s incredibly moving. It makes me really really happy, and really really devastated and depressed at the same time…it makes me think of my fondest and best times of my life, and it makes me think of the worst as well.”

I’d have to agree. I really hope you enjoy the dance+song video, and can feel the emotional roller coaster of difficult decisions, heartbreak, and ultimately doing what’s right.
