Is it Monday already? + an amazing house in NYC

I have been busy figuring out a new blog layout….hopefully you can see it all in a few days (eek!). I’m still just dabbling with the whole coding/html/css thing but even so, the new layout  will be leaps and bounds better than this template.

I LOVE creative people! People that do things differently–that think outside of not just the square, but the circle, the triangle, and the octagon. I would never in a million years have thought to do what these people did… have you seen this video? Did you love it or hate it? I had to watch it like five times. Whether you like it or not, you have to admit it was pretty darn creative. Hope this brightens your Monday!

Packing up the Season

foggydress_lights The Christmas tree is down, and lights are put away. When I was helping someone put up their lights in early December, I pulled them out of a big box full of lights and they were all wrapped in balls! It was so easy to get them out! Not tangles, no endless strands… So if any of you out there are like me and just taking your decorations down, try wrapping your lights in balls like this, if you haven’t tried it already. You’ll be thanking me come next December.

That’s all for now… have a great one!

10 Cool Plants I Want in my Home

foggydress_plants Happy 2014 Ya’ll! I’m in Texas right now, can you tell…? We’ll be here for a few more days, visiting family and sight seeing and lounging around watching all the Harry Potter movies. Oh and eating tons of yummy food. One of the highlights of our trip so far, besides seeing my adorable little nephew, was visiting the Dallas World Aquarium. There were SO MANY PLANTS and I wanted them all in my home!foggydress_plants Here is my top 10 favorite plants that might potentially end up in my house some day. If I lived in a tropical rainforest. Or in a green house.
foggydress_plants1. This plant, with the super long roots. I was just walking along…when BAM! I ran into something! then I looked up and saw… foggydress_plants

foggydress_plants The roots were hanging everywhere and I loved it. See the other 9, and a sweet picture of a manatee, after the page break! Continue reading

hello weekend

foggydress_wknd_ill I have been battling the flu all week, telling myself that I’m not actually sick (my body disagrees), sleeping lots and taking plenty of Nyquil and Dayquil (the legal amount, don’t worry). Seeing as AKG is also trying to get over the flu while wrestling his first week of finals in graduate school, it’s looking like a low-key weekend. I’ll be finishing this book that I started ages ago, have you read it? I love the front page book summary in one sentence: Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants. Sounds like a no-brainer but most of what people eat today is a result of food-science rather than whole, fresh foods. Speaking of food science… I’ll also be drinking some of this over the weekend:

foggydress_wknd_ill I’m sure it’s not a new thing, but I only discovered it a few days ago. I think I still prefer the regular (dairy) egg nog, but this one isn’t as thick so I like it.

What are your plans? It’s only been one week of December and I’ve already been to see the Nutcracker Ballet, and A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. In between book reading and egg nog drinking, we’ll be decorating our tree and listening to plenty of Christmas music while wrapping ourselves up in thick, warm blankets. It’s getting cooooold!

Enjoy this adorable Christmas video, and have a wonderful weekend….

projects lately…

foggydress_homefoggydress_homefoggydress_homefoggydress_homefoggydress_home It’s best if I keep myself busy (distracted more like), so I decided to jump back into blogging. I hadn’t realized it’s been 3 weeks since I last blogged. Here goes….

From top to bottom:

  • Plants. My sister-in-law works at a nursery in Utah, so I thought I would take advantage of her discount… I got a Maiden Hair Fern which I LOVE. I’ve had this plant before, when I was in college, but the Utah cold just about killed it. It didn’t thrive there, but I’m hoping this warmer, more humid climate will be perfect for it. Don’t you love hanging plants? I’m also obsessed with the crazy Juncus Dart plant (second photo), which reminds of Princess Merida’s crazy hair in Brave.
  • Watercolor. I have been obsessing over learning how to water color this past month. I don’t know why but I’m literally in love with it, even though I’m really not that good. I’ve been wanting to paint something for the saying “grow old with me” to compliment the big picture of us in front of the temple on our wedding day, so I attempted to paint some simple water color flowers for it. I think it turned out ok.
  • Painting Pickle Jars. I just hate throwing away glass jars. If you look carefully around my house, I make all sorts of uses out of little leftover jars from the grocery store. Lately, I’ve been saving our pickle jars (I didn’t realize we eat so many pickles until I noticed how many pickle jars I’d saved!). I decided to paint a few of them, since I wanted to use them in the front room and frankly pickle jars aren’t as “in” as mason jars…. I had to get a little creative.

So there are some of my projects lately…feels good to be blogging.
