138    published posts (including this one).

5    hours on average is spent on each of these posts. Usually — between making something, photographing, choosing photos, editing, making the layout, and writing the post — it can take up to 8-10 hrs on some posts!

3    awesome bloggers who helped me so much, along the way (Liz – SYTH, Brooke – Giddy in the City, Liz – Cotton&Curls)

1    super, duper amazing reader, whom I wouldn’t have had the motivation to keep up the blog posts without… and that super amazing reader is YOU! Thank you for being kind and taking an interest in what I have to say/do/wear. THANK YOU to those of you who take the time to comment! It means so much. I know I say/do/wear a lot of weird things, and sometimes I look back at posts and think “I look so silly!” but you all are so nice and encouraging. So THANK YOU!

Starting & keeping this lifestyle blog was a January 2013 goal of mine, and I’ve achieved it! I worked really hard, spent hours and hours (ask any blogger–it’s a full time job) and poured my heart into this thing. I love how much of the past year I have recorded! Even though it’s not perfect, and I don’t have a gajillion followers, it’s enough. Thanks for coming along for the ride! This next year at Foggy Dress will surely be bright.

Here are some favorite &/or most popular posts of 2013:

foggydress_bestof2013  From EAT, my favorite post in 2013 was white-chocolate dipped coconut macaroons with a hint of lemon. Mostly because I love the photographs I took! They look diviiiiiine.

foggydress_bestof2013 From DRESS, my favorite post was hello yellow because 1.) look at that garage door! All the garages in SF were so pretty and colorful and classy and I miss them. And 2.) I thought the writing was pretty funny. Be sure to read the last paragraph.

foggydress_bestof2013 From RE-FASHIONED, my fave and also (one of) the most popular posts I’ve done was a widen your pants tutorial, making these one-size-too-small jeans fit perfectly!

foggydress_bestof2013 From TRAVEL, my favorite posts were of course my trip to Taiwan and Hong Kong! Because, I mean, you just can’t find a Hello Kitty Restaurant in America:

foggydress_bestof2013 (see all the posts from Taiwan here, here and here. Hong Kong, here.)

foggydress_bestof2013 From DIY, the hands down, most searched for and most popular post on this blog is How to Fix the Worn-Down, Between the Thigh Area in Your Jeans. Who would’ve thought!? I’ve mended several pants like that over the years, and one day I read someone’s blog where a reader commented about that pesky problem and asked how to fix it. The next day I had the tutorial up and it has been the most popular post ever since.

Stay tuned for a fun giveaway coming soon, sponsored by yours truly, to thank you readers for the fun year we’ve had at Foggy Dress.

eat: home grown tomato sandwiches & have a fabulous weekend

foggydress_tomato

My mom has these gorgeous tomatoes from her little tomato garden that I have been literally devouring. See how much flesh and meat is on that tomato?? Normal store bought ones are full of water and seeds when you cut them open, never mind not having any flavor. If you do not know someone who grows tomatoes, I highly recommend you grow some of your own. I have been eating so many tomato sandwiches (always open face), have you ever had one?

foggydress_avo^^ These are from Ventura ^^

Here’s how I make my homegrown tomato sandwiches:

  • whole wheat bread from Costco, toasted sometimes
  • pesto mayo spread on one slice of bread
  • when we get avocados for free (see above) we like to add that on, too
  • a big, thick slice of a meaty, fragrant, home grown tomato
  • a sprinkling of salt & pepper

Try it!

What are your plans this weekend? We are entertaining more family, and celebrating 中秋節 Mid Autumn Festival with moon cakes and moon gazing. Also, an earthquake woke us up at 5 am yesterday, it was kinda scary!

Thanks for reading this really random post…and have a great weekend!

Eat: Green (Tomato-less) Tomatillo Salsa

tomatillo_salsaNext time you go to a summer BBQ, volunteer to bring some of this ^^ tomato-less salsa along! I love it, my Aunt made it all the time, and her daughter finally gave me the secret recipe. Tomatillo’s are not as sweet as tomatoes, but give a zangy twist to the traditional red, tomato salsa. click here for the simple recipe!

eat: nutella filled strawberry hearts

It’s almost Valentine’s day, and I’m not one to cut out paper hearts and plaster them all over the house. However, I fully support showing people you love them by whipping up something delish (the stomach is the way to a man’s heart, no?). I came up with a treat that FOR SURE says I love you:
strawberry

Nutella-filled strawberry hearts. Don’t get me wrong–I have a love for the pure strawberry, untouched by added artificial sugar & the like. But I picked up SO MANY strawberries from Ventura, this past week…

…that ideas were flashing through my stomach mind about what to make with them. Well, you know me and my obsession with Nutella…it got the best of me and before I knew it I was stuffing those rosy berries with hazelnut goodness. Here’s a twist to the classic chocolate-covered-strawberry that will really show your love to those special people in your life:

It’s pretty simple, just cut and fill! Note: buy enough to both eat & give 🙂

treats & eats: strawberries

Jan 18, 2013

The amazing thing about living pretty much anywhere in California is (besides the sunshine) the strawberries. They are the very best from Ventura & Oxnard, but are usually very flavorful just about anywhere in Cali. Black berries are also delicious, and grow wild all over Northern California.

Anyway, my point in writing this post is that I was visiting a friend and asked if they wanted some berries. They politely said no thank-you, we don’t like to eat berries. You don’t like to eat berries?!?!? is what went through my mind. Well I’m here to declare that you’re right, you shouldn’t like to eat berries…you should LOVE to eat them. Berries are natures candy, and not only that, have lots of nutrients! They most always satisfy my sweet tooth craving. I used to be too cheap to buy them, but I’ve realized that it’s worth the few extra dollars they cost, and I can afford them if I take the Oreo’s out of my shopping cart. Plus they ALWAYS make good yogurt toppings.

So the next time you have a friend over, and they politely decline to eat your berries…just say to yourself, more for me!
