One-Year Anniversary at Foggy Dress + Some of my Favorite Posts

Guys, I made it!

365    days of managing this blog.

138    published posts (including this one).

142    different countries that Foggy Dress readers are from.

5    hours on average is spent on each of these posts. Usually — between making something, photographing, choosing photos, editing, making the layout, and writing the post — it can take up to 8-10 hrs on some posts!

3    awesome bloggers who helped me so much, along the way (Liz – SYTH, Brooke – Giddy in the City, Liz – Cotton&Curls)

1    super, duper amazing reader, whom I wouldn’t have had the motivation to keep up the blog posts without… and that super amazing reader is YOU! Thank you for being kind and taking an interest in what I have to say/do/wear. THANK YOU to those of you who take the time to comment! It means so much. I know I say/do/wear a lot of weird things, and sometimes I look back at posts and think “I look so silly!” but you all are so nice and encouraging. So THANK YOU!

Starting & keeping this lifestyle blog was a January 2013 goal of mine, and I’ve achieved it! I worked really hard, spent hours and hours (ask any blogger–it’s a full time job) and poured my heart into this thing. I love how much of the past year I have recorded! Even though it’s not perfect, and I don’t have a gajillion followers, it’s enough. Thanks for coming along for the ride! This next year at Foggy Dress will surely be bright.

Here are some favorite &/or most popular posts of 2013:

foggydress_bestof2013  From EAT, my favorite post in 2013 was white-chocolate dipped coconut macaroons with a hint of lemon. Mostly because I love the photographs I took! They look diviiiiiine.

foggydress_bestof2013 From DRESS, my favorite post was hello yellow because 1.) look at that garage door! All the garages in SF were so pretty and colorful and classy and I miss them. And 2.) I thought the writing was pretty funny. Be sure to read the last paragraph.

foggydress_bestof2013 From RE-FASHIONED, my fave and also (one of) the most popular posts I’ve done was a widen your pants tutorial, making these one-size-too-small jeans fit perfectly!

foggydress_bestof2013 From TRAVEL, my favorite posts were of course my trip to Taiwan and Hong Kong! Because, I mean, you just can’t find a Hello Kitty Restaurant in America:

foggydress_bestof2013 (see all the posts from Taiwan here, here and here. Hong Kong, here.)

foggydress_bestof2013 From DIY, the hands down, most searched for and most popular post on this blog is How to Fix the Worn-Down, Between the Thigh Area in Your Jeans. Who would’ve thought!? I’ve mended several pants like that over the years, and one day I read someone’s blog where a reader commented about that pesky problem and asked how to fix it. The next day I had the tutorial up and it has been the most popular post ever since.

Stay tuned for a fun giveaway coming soon, sponsored by yours truly, to thank you readers for the fun year we’ve had at Foggy Dress.

hello weekend: how heavy is your purse?

foggydress_purse I forgot to include my trusty phone, not pictured above b/c it was charging at time of photo shoot

Finally it’s the weekend! AKG will be officially finished with his first week of finals in graduate school. Everyone give him a cyber-hug. This weekend we’ll be hot-potting, sleeping in (except Sunday–darn 9AM church!), and watching the Hobbit!! And hopefully mailing out Christmas greeting cards.

Monday morning I read an article on the Huffington Post, and I’ve been thinking about it all week long: Why Your Purse Is Giving You Back Pain….And 11 Ways To Fix It. After reading it, I realized many things; I carry way too much in my purse (see pic above–I usually have a book in my bag as well), and I have horrible posture while carrying it! The author had some great suggestions to remedy the shoulder/back/neck pain that comes from carrying heavy bags, like don’t text while carrying a purse“Sometimes it’s the double-duty of texting and looking down that causes the curve in your neck to get lost and get flat.” Another tip is to make sure your bag isn’t too long or too short“You want to be able to swing your hips and your shoulders freely without being bumped by the bag.” <– This one sounds like a no brainer, but it makes a huge difference. I noticed that when I carry a purse, usually the arm not carrying the purse will swing, but not both. So I tried consciously swinging both arms and it really made a difference for my back! Switching up which shoulder carries the bag is a tip I already knew about, but something  I don’t do often enough; it’s almost always over my right shoulder.

How heavy is your bag? What do you  carry, that you think you don’t need in there? I’ve stopped carrying my book, and I need to do more dump-out-the-contents-of-my-purse-to-see-whats-in-there type of inspection, so I can find surprises like that blush colored Stila nail polish^^ I’ve been looking everywhere for (of course it would be in my purse). Hope that article will help lighten your load, as it (literally) did for me. Have a great weekend!

A HObag named ZANE

foggydress_hobag_zane Remember this gorgeous fabric I instagrammed about? And remember how I started naming my HObags? Just want to make sure you remember everything that has ever gone on in my life. Good. Well look at me I finished her! For some reason the name Zane popped into my head and it stuck. Ok who wants Zane??

foggydress_hobag_zane I was inspired by all the boxy, big envelop clutches that I covet so much. Although it isn’t as stiff as those, it still holds enough shape to appreciate all those straight lines and edgy corners. UGH this print is jut perfect!

How to Make a Perfect Fitting Boyfriend Tee + tutorial

foggydress_boyfriend tee I don’t know why I keep calling this a “boyfriend tee” when really it’s my husband’s, but you get what I mean: a loose, slouchy-fitting top that may or may not have formerly belonged  to a boyfriend/husband/male.

Some people can just throw on a big tee and it somehow looks flawless. But I usually have to make a few adjustments here, sew a little there, before it actually works on me.

If you have a sewing machine handy, you can fix those wide shoulders and those longs sleeves to make them more feminine and flattering. More photos & a tutorial after the jump!
