weekend wardrobe

foggydress_hiking While a lot of my friends across the country are enduring below freezing temperatures, I am soaking in the heat & sun of a California winter.
foggydress_hikingfoggydress_hiking^^ We found this awesome, old, broken down car. I wonder how old it is.

foggydress_hiking I lived in my hiking clothes this weekend, as we walked all over the hills of Diamond Bar. I wore pants but almost wished I didn’t because of the heat. My hiking boots are my best friends, guys. If you haven’t purchased a good pair (they’re pricey, but I got mine on sale) then you should ask Santa for some. I have these, but would really love these for cold weather hikes.

foggydress_hikingSo many soft, rolling hills! You could see LA in the distance (not in the picture above, that’s facing the other direction), it was that clear and that beautiful.foggydress_hikingfoggydress_hikingfoggydress_hiking^^ I can never get him to look at the camera… foggydress_hikingfoggydress_hikingfoggydress_hikinghugs, hanalei

playing tourist: at the Hollywood Bowl

Last weekend I went to the Hollywood Bowl on a mother-daughter date with another friend & her daughters. It was the annual Sound of Music Sing-a-long, where the audience watches the classic Sound of Music movie as the words to the songs appear on a ginormous screen. People brought poppers for on-screen kisses, flashlights for when the Nazi’s were looking for the Von Trapp family, and took out their lighters phones for the love songs.  Set in the hills of Hollywood, the outdoor amphitheater is in full sight of the infamous Hollywood sign (visible during the day, I promise). I spent many a summer night here growing up, for shows and orchestra concerts by John Williams or the LA Philharmonic. I love the closing Fireworks show towards the end of the summer, and of course the fourth of July celebrations. It is here that I grew to love classical music.

Please tell me that if you live in the LA area, or have been to LA, that you have gone to a concert here before! If you’re not into classical music, there are plenty of weekends where there are shows like the Blue Man Group, Earth Wind and Fire, Vampire Weekend etc.

You need to go!

It’s a summertime celebration, so check their website for the 2014 summer schedule!

PS-Two things: parking ($20) is stacked, so you’ll be stuck there for at least an hour, unless you pay $45 for Valet parking (which we did, & we were in and out of there in minutes!) or catch the shuttle. Also: DO NOT bring your trusty DSLR camera! They will make you check it in or return it to your car. You can get away with a point-and-shoot camera or your cell.

treats & eats: strawberries

Jan 18, 2013

The amazing thing about living pretty much anywhere in California is (besides the sunshine) the strawberries. They are the very best from Ventura & Oxnard, but are usually very flavorful just about anywhere in Cali. Black berries are also delicious, and grow wild all over Northern California.

Anyway, my point in writing this post is that I was visiting a friend and asked if they wanted some berries. They politely said no thank-you, we don’t like to eat berries. You don’t like to eat berries?!?!? is what went through my mind. Well I’m here to declare that you’re right, you shouldn’t like to eat berries…you should LOVE to eat them. Berries are natures candy, and not only that, have lots of nutrients! They most always satisfy my sweet tooth craving. I used to be too cheap to buy them, but I’ve realized that it’s worth the few extra dollars they cost, and I can afford them if I take the Oreo’s out of my shopping cart. Plus they ALWAYS make good yogurt toppings.

So the next time you have a friend over, and they politely decline to eat your berries…just say to yourself, more for me!
