DIY: easy last minute banner made from paper bags + tutorial

foggydress_banner

This is something I made for our friend Eric, who’s leaving on a medical mission to Africa in just a few weeks. He’s not one for decor and spending money on cutesy things, so I figured he’d appreciate us throwing him a beach bonfire party with this low-key, very cheap banner as the main decor. That and 50 glow sticks! Note: always bring glow sticks to night time beach parties. See pictures below.

We went out to Newport Beach where there were bonfire pits to roast our vegan & non-vegan dinners (we have such a diverse group of friends), and went night bouldering around some caves on the water’s edge. It was a dreamy night filled with good food, good friends, and way too much laughter (can there be such a thing?).

See the simple tutorial, made with left over brown paper bags from the grocery store, some blue painters tape, and spray paint… Continue reading

Playing Tourist: in Ventura, Ca

foggydress_ventura LA is a big, fast paced city, Santa Barbara is a small, filled-with-tourists city, but sandwiched in between is the cozy beach town of Ventura. My husband spent half his life here, so we have all our favorite places down when we go back. We were there with family this weekend, so of course we went to some of our favorite places….

foggydress_ventura^^ Andria’s at Ventura Harbor & the beach.

foggydress_venturaWe always get Andria’s classic fish & chips.

Fresh caught white fish, it’s the plumpest, juiciest fish, fried on a bed of “chips”. Squeeze fresh lemon on that and you’ll think you’re in heaven!

foggydress_ventura^^ You can rent paddle boats or kayaks ^^ (all sorts of boats; see above) and cruise around the harbor.

foggydress_ventura Next time you come to LA, it’s worth the hour drive to stop by this beach town that still has orchards and fields of fresh fruits, fresh caught fish, and a breath of fresh air (literally).

hugs, hanalei.

hello weekend, from SD!

foggydress_sd

We are enjoying a perfectly comfortable holiday down here in San Diego. Having friends in La Jolla is a little too convenient for us, as I might be wearing out my welcome sooner than later. The 1.5 hour drive is just too do-able, I don’t think I can stay away long. I’ll post more about our trip on Monday.

On another note, I’m past due for a hair trim. I say trim, not cut, because I am trying to grow my hair out. Grow hairs, grow! I could definitely use a trim & style. Something along the lines of Jessica Alba (plus a few inches):

foggydress_hairstylesWhat do you think…left or right or are they both pretty much the same? I’m growing my bangs out but still on the fence about it. I have an unusually large forehead and I may or may not be able to pull off the whole middle-part look. Guess we’ll see!

hugs, from San Diego 🙂
