I just bareeeeeely sent out my father’s day cards…I know, not as on top of things as I was during mother’s day. Life as been SO CRAZY over at this house. Since we returned from China, we have had non-stop guests over! We love it, but it just slows us down a bit. I could’ve sworn today was June 2…when I looked at the calendar I could hardly believe it was already the 13th. If I call home to say my father’s day card will be late, does that make up for it actually being late?
I really wish I could send my dad a plate full of delicious homemade food, because that’s what he’d realllyyy love and appreciate. Thank goodness for gift cards, how did people ever manage without them??? Here’s to spending time (if you can) with them, or sending them something you spent time on. Time is about the most precious gift we can give.
PS. A little birdie (aka my girlfriend Booke L.) told me Treat.com is giving away FREE personalized cards! Valid until June 17th with promo code: TRT6FDEE5F
I’ve started to notice that I’m getting quite a few international readers on the blog (Albania, Croatia, Turkey, Australia…)(!) so I’ll try to adjust my writing a bit, for them 🙂
Mother’ Day is a few weeks away, here in America. I’m usually the kind of person who puts things in the mail 2 days before the holiday/birthday/celebration. But not this year! I got an early start because I’m super on top of things…okay not really, I just have to get them out before I leave (in 5 days!) for China…
I just love making my own cards.
Sometimes most of the time I don’t get it right the first time around, so it’s usually the second or third card that comes out just right.
So if my mama or mama-in-law are reading this…I guess you get a sneak peek into what you’ll be getting in the mail next week!
I usually don’t like buying pre-designed cards because 1. they can get pretty expensive and 2. I get so much joy in the creative process of making them. The only exception is when I’m in a specialty store and the card is so unique, and the envelope + packaging have me swooning. Other than that, it’s just a lot more satisfying (and fun!) putting in the time to make a personalized card.
I like to buy a pack of blank white cards (seen above), which come with envelopes, from Michaels. I have lots of specialty paper, glitter, and glittery metallic pens on hand, but I usually shoot for a simple, clean, crisp look. I spend most of my time just thinking about what to draw in the first place, that’s the hardest part!
Anyway, you should take those dollars you were going to use to buy a card, and use it to purchase some card-making materials–it’ll be cheaper & so much more fun in the long run!
Note: You probably already know this, but don’t ever buy anything from Michaels without a coupon! Just google “michael’s coupon” or click here for their weekly-ad coupons.
PS. don’t you love how I’m always posting at noon? 🙂
